Dance Program

Students, beginning at age 7 and up to adults, are offered professional instruction in Classical Ballet, Pointe, Tap, Jazz, Acro-Gymnastics, Lyrical, Contemporary, Modern and Hip Hop.

Students at this level are encouraged to develop their imagination as well as their minds and bodies through their own original style of dance; concepts which will carry throughout their lives. Enhanced concentration, coordination, and discipline are just a few of the skills learned that will help foster a healthy mind and body.

All students are placed in classes, appropriate to their age as well as their skill level.Specific class descriptions are listed below:

Acro-Gymnastics

A great combination of strengthening skills used in gymnastics and flexibility tricks used in acrobatics. Acro-gymnastics favors body control in various positions, both on the ground and in the air. A terrific course to keep up with your cheerleading tumbling skills. (Check out our Acro-Gymnastics page for more information!)

Cecchetti Ballet

The Cecchetti Council of America is an organization dedicated to maintaining the standards and method of ballet training established by Cav. Enrico Cecchetti. The organization uses his teaching and writings in a sequence of grades, carefully measured as to degree of difficulty and physical development, and provides a system of accredited examinations to test the student's proficiency within those grades. The Cecchetti method offers many rewards to the individual as each grade is successfully completed.

Students should realize that there is a specific goal to their Cecchetti class. Our goal is to take pride in the accomplishment of receiving a Cecchetti Certificate that was earned with hard work through self-discipline, commitment and dedication. It is guaranteed that each student will finish each examination with a feeling of personal fulfillment and satisfaction that will be carried through a lifetime.

Parents, students and instructors should realize that working toward the Cecchetti examinations will require determination and tenacity for all involved. Students will feel their bodies strengthen as well as their minds and have a great time doing so. There will be trying days, but the final result will leave each student with confidence, self-esteem and a rewarding experience that will be long lasting.

All of our Cecchetti instructors are a part of the Cecchetti Council of Ohio.

Boy's Dance

Designed to improve his coordination and strength while introducing basic dance skills! A fast-paced, energetic, fun class that will introduce acro-gymnastics, jazz and hip hop at a great discounted price!! Boys are also welcome and encouraged to attend all other class types in addition to their regularly scheduled class.

Contemporary

Uses dance techniques and methods found in ballet and modern dance. It also draws from other philosophies of movement that are outside the realm of classical dance technique. Contemporary dance places a heavy emphasis on the connection between mind and body, with dancers being encouraged to explore their emotions through dances which push against traditional boundaries. This style of dance often involves a great deal of playing with balance, floor work, fall and recovery, and improvisation.

Hip-Hop

A fun, upbeat, and fast-paced class that is danced to the latest hip-hop music. Hip Hop includes a wide range of styles including breaking, locking and popping. It is characterized as hard-hitting, and involving flexibility and isolations. It is very rhythmic and has an emphasis placed on musicality—how sensitive your movements are to the music.

Jazz

One of our favorites! A high energy class filled with great music, strong traditional jazz technique and fresh choreography. Jazz is heavily influenced by the sounds, rhythms, and techniques of jazz music. Like jazz music, jazz dance is highly individual, with an emphasis on showcasing individual skills.

Lyrical

A flowing combination of modern, ballet and jazz movement. Dancers will combine these technical movements with the ability to interpret meaningful ideas through music. The goal of the lyrical dancer is to convey the emotion of a song's lyrics through dance.

Modern

Contemporary dance styles through strong movement & expressive body placement. It is a style of theatrical dance that rejects the limitations of classical ballet and favors movement deriving from the expression of inner feeling.

Pointe

Advancement of ballet skills taken on to Pointe. Strong knowledge of body placement & technique enforced through the gracefulness of ballet combined with an “Alighting from Above” otherwise known as Pointe!

Tap

A great way to develop rhythm skills and sharpen your coordination and listening skills with the latest in tap technique and choreography. Tap is a form of dance characterized by using the sound of one's tap shoes hitting the floor as a percussive instrument.
