All About The Curriculum!
Quick Reference Guide to Class Descriptions

Our goal is to design classes that develop proper technique in each area of dance as well as provide students the opportunity to acquire an appreciation for the art of dance in an enjoyable atmosphere. All About Dance! by Kristen offers a variety of classes to fit the needs of pre-schoolers through adults.

At All About Dance! our Early Childhood Program is specially designed to provide children between two and six years of age with a strong foundation in dance and movement. Our program’s design is a reflection of the most recent research findings in early childhood development. Children in the early childhood years are making developmental strides in the physical, social, emotional, and aesthetic arenas.  Accordingly, our Early Childhood Program functions to mirror these findings. Our program aids physical development by introducing movement concepts, musical rhythm, opposites, and the elementary positions of dance.  Social development is aided by participation in our early childhood classes when students are introduced to the basics of classroom behavior and   manners, such as learning how to take turns, how to follow a leader, how to wait patiently, how to work together with others, and how to maintain a positive attitude.  Integrated with these physical and social concepts are such ideas as self-awareness, self-efficacy, and self-esteem. These important components of a child’s emotional development are emphasized in our positive, upbeat learning environments. Finally, our program serves to develop a child’s creative, or aesthetic development. We do so by introducing such concepts as musical awareness and appreciation, dance appreciation, spatial awareness, and by providing many opportunities for sensory experiences with educational props.

For one hour a week, pre-schoolers 3-5 years of age will enjoy our Kindercise and KinderDance  programs. Kindercise children will learn to enhance their locomotive, balancing and coordinaction skills through educational games, gymnastic equipment, songs, and choregraphed dances. They will also be introduced to the beginning elements of classical ballet as well as new concepts such as classroom etiquette. KinderDance students will also be introduced to such concepts as musical awareness, classroom etiquette and expression of creativity through choregraphed dances in classical ballet and pre-jazz as well as developing creative rhymic expression through the introduction of tap dancing. Above all, children in our Kindercise and KinderDance program will develop creative expression in a fun and exciting atmospere.

Children 5 to 6 years of age in our Early Childhool Program are able to choose from the primary levels of Ballet, Tap, Acro-Gym and Tot Bop (our Junior Jazz Program). For 45 minutes a week, children will learn to further control their movement and build on their skills from Kindercise and KinderDance in specific ares of dance. Concepts such as rhythm awareness, body placement and creative expression are expanded upon.

Students beginning at age 7 and up to adults are offered professional instruction in Classical Ballet, Point (offered only to students physically prepared and properly trained), Tap, Jazz, Acro-Gymnastics, Lyrical Ballet and Hip Hop Jazz. Students at this level are encouraged to develop their imagination as well as their minds and bodies through their own original style of dance…concepts which will carry throughout their lives. All students are placed in classes, appropriate to their age as well as their skill level.

All About Dance! by Kristen

All About Dance! by Kristen has specially created each class, allowing students to correctly develop their dancing talents. In order for your child to be well-rounded, we strongly urge all of our students to participate in more than one area of dance, with ballet as the foundation.

All About the Dress Code!

In order to provide a more professional atmosphere, solid black leotards with pink or tan tights are required in all ballet classes and encouraged in all others. All Kindercise/KinderDance classes are required to wear pink leotards with pink tights. Correct shoes are essential! We also encourage a neat and clean appearance with hair neatly secured and away from the face. Baggy T-shirt or street shorts are NOT permitted as these items make it difficult to detect any problems with body alignment and placement.

All About Visitor's Days!

Parents are invited and encouraged to observe their child's progress the last scheduled class of every month beginning in October. Any questions regarding your child's progress are welcomed. Please feel free to set up an appointment with the instructor.

All About Recital Performance!

Each year All About Dance! by Kristen creates an original recital production or a showcase performed by the students. At the end of our dance season in May or June, the students will have the opportunity to display their talents for family and friends.
